Today, at my own request, I had a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to discuss immigration. We are currently experiencing an alarming situation in Quebec and it is imperative that we act.
During two years, the number of asylum seekers and temporary migrants increased by 23,000 and reached 528,000.
Our reception capacity has been exceeded. We have a shortage of teachers, nurses, housing. This is a real problem for the future of the French in Quebec.

The vast majority of these people are accepted by the federal government. I urged Justin Trudeau to act quickly.
Mr. Trudeau agreed to meet again between now and June 30 to review progress on various requests he has pending, particularly to submit temporary foreign worker admissions currently under federal responsibility.
In the meantime, the Quebec government is considering all its options to quickly reduce the number of asylum seekers and temporary immigrants in Quebec.
The people of Quebec have always been welcoming, but we have exceeded our receiving capacity. That's why I reiterated Quebec's call for full immigration powers to be restored. This is important to protect the language and identity of the Quebec nation. Unfortunately, Justin Trudeau repeated his refusal once again.
