Schultz warned against abandoning Ukraine in a war with Russia
Shults warned about leaving Ukraine in the war with Russia and said: “Russia has launched a war against Ukraine that has killed and injured hundreds, and we should not leave Ukraine in this situation.”
According to Isna, German Chancellor Olaf Schulz said in an interview with T-Online News website: “We must do everything we can to ensure that Ukraine does not remain alone and remains an independent country.”
He noted: “We support Ukraine as much as possible. At the same time, we are cautious to avoid a war between Russia and NATO. That’s why I said clearly that I will not deliver the Taurus cruise missile to Kiev.”
Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election has brought into focus the military and financial aid Ukraine can expect from Europe.
Trump has questioned the US aid to Ukraine and is seeking to stop this war that started in 2022.
Shultz further asked Ukraine’s western allies to increase their military support to Ukraine.
He added: “What is important now is the guarantee that Ukraine will not be left alone and that we will continue to supply weapons. “What’s more important now is for everyone to see if they can do more to support Ukraine.”
The German chancellor further emphasized that now is the time to take action for a stable and lasting peace.
Germany, which is supposed to witness the holding of new parliamentary elections on February 23, 2025, last Monday announced its massive arms package for Ukraine.
This new package includes 15 Leopard tanks, two Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, 2000 howitzers, two Iris-T anti-aircraft systems and two Patriot missile launchers.
After America, Germany is the second supplier of arms and other aid to Ukraine.
