On Thursday, Euronews, citing the government sources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, claimed that a Russian surface-to-air missile caused the downing of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane on Wednesday.
According to these sources, this missile was fired at flight number 8432 and exploded next to the plane during the aerial activity of the drone over Grozny. The shrapnel of this missile hit the body of the plane and caused it to crash.
Government sources in Baku have further claimed that this damaged plane, despite the pilots’ request for an emergency landing, was not allowed to land at any airport in Russia and was ordered to fly from the Caspian Sea to Aktau in Kazakhstan.
According to the data, the plane’s GPS navigation systems were jammed throughout the flight path over the sea.
According to Baku authorities, a missile from the Pantsir-S air defense system was the cause of the plane crash.
At the same time, Russian sources reported that at the same time as the Azerbaijan Airlines flight was passing through the Chechen region, the Russian Air Defense Forces were trying to shoot down the Ukrainian drones.
