Saint Tados Monastery is an Armenian monastery complex in “Western Atrapatkan” province of Iran. It is one of the main attractions not only of Atrapatakan, but also of Iran as a whole. With the name “Armenian Churches in Iran”, it has been registered in the UNESCO World Heritage along with St. Stefanos (Jolfa) and Tsursoor monasteries. The entire building is covered with decorative reliefs that give the church a special glory. A smooth road leads to the monastery. Iranian authorities protect this church and other churches with special care.

An ancient Armenian church about an hour’s taxi ride from Mako. I visited in June 2004; Even then, it was in good condition, and after being registered as a World Heritage Site, the interior seems to have improved even more.

The beautiful Armenian monastery in the middle of the green and spring hilly landscape of western Iran. There is a good view of the buildings from the surrounding hills. As it turns out, the entire complex is very well maintained and seems to be the most visited of all three Armenian churches that are part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Two tour groups were there at the same time as us.
