Beijing-based Koryo Tours and Shenyang-based KTG Tours both said separately that tour groups would be allowed to visit the mountain town of Samjiyon; The place known as the birthplace of the late leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Il.
One of these companies has announced that it has received the necessary approvals from its local partner in North Korea; According to these confirmations, it will be possible for tourists to visit Samjeon region and probably other regions of North Korea from the end of this year.
The other company also stated that the exact date of the tours should be confirmed, and expressed hope that it will be possible to travel to Pyongyang and other parts of North Korea.
It should be mentioned that the Samjeon region is located on the border of China, which has historical and cultural importance for both North and South Korea and is known as the cradle of the Korean people.
