Moscow: America is trying to create a crisis in Asia by using Taiwan
Supporting China’s position on Taiwan, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister said that America is using the issue of this island to escalate tensions in Asia.
According to RCO News Agency, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko told TASS News agency: “We observe that Washington violates the principle of one China, recognizes Taiwan’s independence and strengthens military and political agreements with Taipei.”
Beijing insists that the Taiwan issue is an “internal” issue and has asked foreign governments not to interfere. Chinese officials have repeatedly criticized Washington for supporting the island of Taiwan, concluding defense contracts and sending weapons to the island.
At the same time that the US government maintains informal relations with Taiwan and sends weapons to the island, tensions between the US and China over Taiwan have risen. Because Beijing considers the island of Taiwan as part of its territory and considers any interference of Western countries in this issue as a “violation of its sovereignty”.
Rudenko stated that the US is increasing arms shipments to Taiwan and said: “The purpose of US interference in regional affairs is clear and it wants to provoke China and create a crisis in Asia for its own benefit.”
