For example, in this patent, if sports bands are connected in future smart watches, sports programs will be activated automatically. In this NFC patent, Apple Watch can communicate with additional bands and sensors and even displays. Apple may never make this watch, but it is likely that it is focused on providing such capabilities. In this patent, Apple has also added a feature to detect the authenticity of the straps attached to the Apple Watch.
