“Phi Phi Lee“, a famous researcher in the computer field, who is often referred to as “The godmother of artificial intelligenceAt the Credo AI meeting, he talked about his role in the birth of modern artificial intelligence and how society should protect itself against advanced models. It is noteworthy that Lee said in a part of his speech that he does not know A.G.I (yesTheJame Masnu’i) that companies like OpenAI are developing, what exactly does it mean.
According to TechCrunch, Lee said in this meeting:
“I come from an AI academic environment and have been trained in more rigorous, evidence-based methods, so I don’t really know what those words mean. Honestly, I don’t even know what AGI means. The truth is, I don’t spend much time thinking about these words because I think there are more important things to do…”
The AI godmother created ImageNet in 2006, the world’s first large AI training and benchmarking dataset, which is one of the foundations of the current AI boom. From 2017 to 2018, he worked as a senior scientist at Google and now leads Stanford University’s Human Centered Artificial Intelligence Institute (HAI).
He also has a startup called World Labs that is building “large world models,” another term that’s almost as confusing as AGI!
OpenAI definition of comprehensive artificial intelligence
Lee pointed out that the concept of AGI is still unclear, while companies such as OpenAI are developing the technology. In an interview with The New Yorker last year, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described AGI as “a human equivalent that you can hire as a coworker.”
In the OpenAI charter, AGI is defined as “highly autonomous systems that outperform humans in performing economically valuable tasks.”
