Earlier, a report claimed that Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup, xAI, has talked about sharing its technologies with Tesla and wants to get paid by the automaker. Now Elon Musk has spoken about it.
Elon Musk, the owner of social media platform X, has clarified that his artificial intelligence startup xAI is not looking to earn money from Tesla in exchange for sharing xAI technologies.
This clarification came after the Wall Street Journal reported in a report that xAI was in talks with Tesla about sharing its technology and wanted to earn money from the automaker in return.
Elon Musk’s statement about the relationship between xAI and Tesla
Describing the capabilities of the fully self-driving system (FSD) of the electric vehicle, Musk said on his X page:
“Tesla employees have learned a lot from discussions with xAI engineers that have helped accelerate FSD’s unsupervised technology, but there is no need to obtain permission from xAI.”
Elon Musk also explained in response to the rumors:
“xAI models are gigantic and contain most of human knowledge in a compact form; So they probably can’t run on Tesla’s inference computer, and we don’t want to do that either.”
Musk also stated that Tesla’s AI models have a much larger context window than large language models. These models, which convert and compress real-world video into driving commands, run on 300-watt computers with far less memory and bandwidth than an H100 GPU can provide.
