Saying that Iran and Russia intend to expand cooperation in the field of construction and operation of small and large nuclear power plants, the CEO of Rosatom announced that the negotiations on the construction of another large nuclear power plant in Iran will begin soon.
According to RCO News Agency, “Alexei Likhachev”, CEO of Rosatom Company, said that Iran and Russia will cooperate more in the field of small and large nuclear facilities.
By publishing this article, Trend News agency reported that according to Likhachev, Iran plans to develop cooperation with Russia in the construction and operation of large and small nuclear facilities.
The CEO of Rosatom also stated that the negotiations regarding the construction of another large nuclear power plant in Iran will begin soon.
This Russian official emphasized that “there is a need to amend some agreements between the parties in the field of construction of small nuclear power plants, and Russia has presented a protocol in this regard to Iran.”
He added that the first unit of the Bushehr nuclear power plant has already been put into operation.
Despite the sanctions and pressure from the West, the construction of the second and third units of the Bushehr nuclear power plant continues.
The first unit of Bushehr nuclear power plant started working in 2011. An Iranian company took over the management of this unit from Rosatom in 2013. Since 2013, this unit has been producing electricity at its maximum power, which is 1000 megawatt hours. In the last 10 years, electricity production in Bushehr nuclear power plant has exceeded 65 billion kilowatt hours.
The construction of units 2 and 3 of Bushehr nuclear power plant started in 2017 in an area of 50 hectares. By operating these units, each one will be able to produce 1,57 megawatts of electricity. Setting up these two units saves 10 million barrels of crude oil or 1.6 billion cubic meters of gas every year and avoids the release of 7 million tons of polluting gas in the environment.
Currently, 17% of the construction work of Block 2 and 3 of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant has been completed.
