The US Federal Police (FBI) has said that the Lazarus hacker group is planning to cash out $41 million worth of Bitcoins in the market.
According to the FBI alert, the stolen bitcoins were apparently transferred to different wallets last year. “The FBI has been able to trace bitcoins stolen by groups affiliated with TraderTraitor,” the alert reads. “We believe that North Korea is trying to cash out these bitcoins worth more than 40 million dollars.”
The FBI has asked cryptocurrency trading platforms to be careful when buying bitcoins and to check their blockchain data before buying to make sure there is nothing wrong with it.
Federal police said: “We will continue to deal with North Korea for illegal activities, including cybercrime and cryptocurrency theft.”
The Lazarus group is one of the most dangerous hacker groups in the world that has managed to steal hundreds of millions of dollars in digital currency. It is said that this group is supported by the North Korean government.
Apparently, by approaching cryptocurrency developers on LinkedIn, this group was able to release malware that allowed the Lazarus team to infiltrate various networks and steal money. Some experts think that these funds will be spent on North Korea’s weapons program.
