Samsung announced today that it will launch its ViewFinity S9 5K monitor in the US, which aims to compete with Apple’s more expensive Studio Monitor.
While the ViewFinity S9 5K monitor has been launched in South Korea, American buyers have been waiting for it since its debut at CES 2023. Now, Samsung has officially announced that it will launch this device in August 2023 at a price of $1,599.99 in the United States.
This price will be slightly more expensive than the Apple Studio display. However, the Samsung monitor will come with a height-adjustable stand, which is expected to sell for $1999.
Both Apple and Samsung monitors have 27-inch 5K panels, Thunderbolt 4 connections, and built-in speakers. Samsung’s ViewFinity S9 is equipped with a better camera with 4K resolution, while Apple’s monitor uses a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera.
The ViewFinity S9 will also have matte glass, while Apple’s monitor glass is reflective, unless you buy a nanotextured option, in which case the price of the Apple monitor will increase to $2,299.00. Although Apple’s nanotexture and Samsung’s matte coating are not the same, they both aim to reduce light reflection on displays.
Samsung also claims that the ViewFinity S9 5K’s color accuracy can be calibrated using a smartphone. Users can do this just by pointing the phone’s camera at the monitor and using the SmartThings app.
In any case, we have to see how the competition between Apple and Samsung’s expensive monitors will be.
