The introduction of Apple’s Vision Pro seems to have delayed the introduction of Samsung’s own XR headset. This headset will probably be introduced in mid-2024 or later, while it was supposed to be unveiled in February 2024.
SamMobile website has reported that Apple’s Vision Pro headset has caused Samsung executives to reconsider their headset. Apparently, improving the resolution of the display was one of the reasons for this delay.
In fact, it seems that Samsung doesn’t want to introduce a headset that is inferior to Apple’s product, even if it costs less. The Vision Pro is priced at $3,500 and is expected to be available in limited quantities at first.
Not many details about the Samsung XR headset are available yet, but it is said that this headset will use Google’s Android software and will be equipped with a Qualcomm chip.
XR technology, or augmented reality, includes a variety of related technologies. In contrast, augmented reality (AR) places digital objects beyond the real world. Virtual reality (VR) also refers to completely independent digital environments. Mixed reality (MR) aims to integrate these two technologies.
Apple’s Vision Pro is a mixed reality headset, while the MetaQuest 3 deals with virtual reality. Augmented reality or XR is actually a combination of AR, VR and MR. Now we have to wait and see what capabilities Samsung will introduce its headset with.
