America has sanctioned more than 200 people and entities related to Russian energy
In the heaviest round of maritime navigation sanctions in recent years, the United States announced that it has placed more than 200 individuals and entities on its sanctions list.
According to RCO News Agency, the Biden administration announced on Friday that it has targeted more than 180 ships and dozens of individuals and entities related to the production and trade of Russian oil and gas.
The Biden administration has also authorized the sanctioning of “any person found to have worked or is working in the Russian energy sector.”
Janet Yellen, the US Treasury Secretary, said in this regard that this action by Washington was done in order to disrupt Russia’s income generation from the energy sector.
He said: “With today’s measures, we are increasing the risks of sanctions related to Russian oil trade, including in the field of transportation and facilitating financial transactions.”
The British Treasury has also announced that it has imposed sanctions against oil companies, including Russia’s Gazprom Neft.
Gazprom Naft has called Washington’s actions “baseless” and “illegal” in response to the US sanctions.
In this regard, one of the company’s representatives said: “Gazprom Naft considers the decision to put its assets on the sanctions list unfounded, illegal and against the principles of free competition.”
