Rabab instrument was registered in the list of intangible heritage of UNESCO.
The 19th UNESCO Intangible Heritage Protection Summit, which is being held in the city of Ascension, Paraguay, agreed to register the “rabb instrument and the techniques of making and playing it” in the UNESCO World Intangible Heritage List.
Rabab is an instrument that plays an important role in preserving and promoting the art of music in Iran. This instrument is a part of the cultural and historical identity of Iranian society, which has been the carrier of their traditions, festivals and rituals.
Rabab is highly respected among local and official musicians of Iran as a foundation of ancestral music. Rabab and its customs are an important cultural component in eastern Iran, especially in Afghani, Baloch, Zabali (Sistani), Khorasani, Naqshbandi, Chishti, Qadri and Suhrawardieh communities.
