It was last Tuesday that North Korea’s state media and Russian officials reported that North Korea’s foreign minister went to Russia on his second trip in the last 6 weeks; The trip comes amid growing concerns among Western officials about Pyongyang’s alleged involvement in supporting Moscow in the Ukraine war.
NATO, along with Seoul, Washington and Kiev, have claimed in recent weeks that North Korean military units have been stationed in the Kursk region of Russia on the border with Ukraine.
The Pentagon threatened last Monday that if North Korea joins Moscow’s war against Kiev, Washington will not impose restrictions on Ukraine’s use of American weapons.
The US Department of Defense also announced that North Korea had sent 10,000 troops to eastern Russia for training, up from 3,000 earlier on Wednesday. US President Joe Biden also called this situation “very dangerous”. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also claimed that the deepening of military relations between Moscow and Pyongyang poses a serious threat to Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic security after a meeting with a delegation from South Korea on Monday.
