Trump’s order for air strike in Somalia
The US president targeted ISIL’s targets in Somalia in his first order for air strikes.
US President Donald Trump issued his first order on air strike on Saturday evening and targeted “ISIL targets” in Somalia.
According to US President Reuters, he ordered air strikes in Somalia Saturday evening, claiming that a senior designer of ISIL attacks and other terrorists close to him has been killed.
The attacks are just a few weeks after a terrorist inspired by ISIL killed four people and injured dozens of others after driving trucks to New Year’s Eve tribes in New Orleans.
“The killers we found in the caves threatened the United States and our allies,” Trump wrote on the social network of Truth Susht.
Trump claimed that the attacks destroyed the caves where the terrorists lived and did not harm the civilians “at all.”
The claim comes as US air strikes on northern Somalia killed at least two civilians and injured many.
However, Trump claimed, “Our army has been targeting ISIL for years, but Biden and his friends are not doing so fast to do the job.”
“The message to ISIS and all those who attack the Americans is that we will find you and kill you,” he said.
It is unclear how many people were killed in total.
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegst gave more details about the attacks, saying the attacks were carried out by the US Command of Africa and in coordination with the Somali government.
“I allowed the US Command to carry out coordination air strikes against ISIL -Somalia agents in the Gullyce Mountains today,” Hegst said in a statement.
“Our initial assessment is that several factors have been killed in air strikes and civilians have not been harmed,” he said. “The move further reduces ISIL’s ability to design and launch terrorist attacks that threaten American citizens, our partners and innocent civilians.”
Hegest said the attacks are sending “a clear signal” that the United States is always ready to find and destroy terrorists that threaten the country and its allies.
An official at the office of President Somali, who declined to be named, confirmed the attacks in an interview with Reuters, saying that the Somali government would welcome the move.
“Somalia cannot be a safe haven for terrorists,” the official said.
The United States has been carried out periodically in Somalia under Republican and Democratic governments.
The United States has carried out the wrong air strikes in Somalia in the past, which has always led to the death of civilians.
