Ankara: 6,000 refugees have returned from Türkiye to Syria
Turkey has announced that more than 6,000 Syrian refugees have returned to their country since the fall of the previous Syrian government and the armed opposition came to power.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said today (Wednesday) that more than 6,000 Syrian asylum seekers had left Turkey for Syria.
The latest statistics show that there are currently more than 1.5 million Syrian refugees living in Turkey, according to Sputnik.
“Since December 5 to the present day, 6,000 Syria have voluntarily returned to Syria,” Yerlikaya said. He also said that more than 6,000 Syrians have voluntarily left Turkey for Syria since year 2.
The Turkish interior minister said earlier this month that before the recent developments in Syria and the fall of Bashar al -Assad’s government, an average of 6,000 Syrian asylum seekers per month had left Turkey, and now the process has been accelerated.
A total of five checkpoints on the Turkish side have been opened to return to their country. Most asylum seekers have returned to Syria from the Turkish border provinces as well as from Istanbul. In general, according to official statistics, about half a million Syria live in Istanbul province.
