Ruthe: NATO allies should change their mentality towards wartime
NATO Secretary General today (Wednesday) once again asked the members of this military alliance to “move towards a wartime mindset.”
“Actually, I said this in a speech last month, but let me say it again,” NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said at a meeting of the defense chiefs of NATO’s military committee, according to ISNA. To avoid war, we must prepare for it. “It’s time to switch to a wartime mindset, and that means we need to make our defenses stronger by spending more on defense and building more and better defense capabilities.”
According to Anatolia News agency, he further emphasized that increasing military programs, preparation and military exercises is necessary, but it is not enough to deal with the dangers that will be faced by the member states in the next four or five years.
The NATO Secretary General further noted that Russia’s “hostile actions,” including cyber attacks and acts of sabotage, which NATO refers to as hybrid warfare, are in fact “destabilizing actions and campaigns.”
He further claimed: Russia is trying hard to weaken our democracies and destroy our freedom, and it is not alone in this way. It has China, North Korea and Iran by its side.
The NATO Secretary General also called for continued support for Ukraine.
Rutte’s statement echoed the words of Rob Bauer, head of NATO’s military committee, who said: “Machiavelli taught us that the best way to do this is to prepare for war, not because war is inevitable, but because preparation Better for war strengthens our deterrence, which in turn minimizes the likelihood of war on allied soil.”
Bauer added: “Over the next two days, this committee will discuss the readiness of the coalition to deter and defend the Euro-Atlantic region and protect the one billion inhabitants of this region, as well as current missions and operations, the defense planning process and support for Ukraine.”
