For more than 70 years, seven countries, Australia, Norway, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, France and the United Kingdom, have claimed ownership of parts of the Antarctic continent. But why is the continent, which is the driest, coldest and windiest region in the world and has no human population, so much attention?
