The support of the Secretary of Defense of the United States for not allowing long-range attacks of Ukraine in Russia
In an interview, the US Secretary of Defense defended the restrictions imposed on Ukraine’s use of long-range missiles and claimed that the country “definitely” can defeat Russia even without such capabilities.
According to Isna, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to the United States this month to present his plan for “victory” over Russia, and according to reports, one of the main provisions of his plan is to remove restrictions on the use of American long-range missiles. Atcoms” and other long-range weapons received from America to attack military targets inside the territory of Russia.
Inside the United States, some lawmakers have increased pressure on President Joe Biden for authorizing these attacks in Ukraine.
In an interview with Fox News, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin responded to the host’s question about authorizing Ukraine’s long-range attacks on Russia, referring to Zelensky’s claim that he wants to use these missiles to prevent Russian fighter jets from attacking with bombs. “Russia has moved its warplanes carrying Surshi bombs and removed them from the 300-kilometer range of At-Coms missiles fired from behind the border of Ukraine.
Austin added: “I think they have the capabilities associated with long-range attacks and will continue to do so. Ukraine has a lot of drone capabilities that we have provided. They also now have the ability to manufacture their own drones. They are very effective. In fact, we have seen that they have launched attacks or operations up to 400 kilometers away from the border and even further back.
The US defense secretary said he is working with military officials to develop an action plan aimed at implementing Zelensky’s so-called “peace plan”. He claimed: “You know we have always said that Ukraine will join NATO one day in the future. “We are really preparing an action plan to support the strategic plan of Ukrainian President Zelensky.”
In another part of this interview, Austin stated that the concern is the growing tendency of America towards isolationism.
“We are a world power,” said the US defense secretary. “We have interests around the world and we intend to do what is necessary to protect those interests.”
While the United States and other NATO members, before the war in Ukraine, have also advanced their expansionist and provocative policies by beating the drum of Russophobia, in this interview, the US Defense Minister again adopted the Russophobia tactic and said: “There is a doubt in my mind.” It does not mean that if Putin succeeds (in Ukraine) he will continue what he has done so far. And of course, all the countries of the Baltic region are very concerned about it and rightly feel that the next target will be these countries.”
In the continuation of this interview, he claimed: “Ukraine can definitely win, and we define the victory of Ukraine in such a way that, as an independent country, it can defend its territory in the future and prevent aggression.”
The Secretary of Defense of the United States explained more about whether this so-called “victory” in his mind means keeping the borders before the 2022 war or considering the Crimean peninsula as part of Ukraine, or whether Ukraine should receive land seized by Russia ignores.
While some American Republicans have complained about the amount of 100 billion US aid to Ukraine, Austin claimed that Washington’s aid to Kiev did not affect the military readiness of the United States and created jobs for Americans.
In the continuation of this interview, he claimed: “Every grenade that we remove from our stockpiles is replaced with something else, or with the same type of ammunition or better ammunition. Every time we remove weapons from our stockpiles, they are replaced with something new.” We believe that the ammunition and weapons are made in the United States of America. And this has meant creating suitable jobs for people in a number of states in this country. And I think that’s an investment that we’re actually benefiting from.”
He added: “We are not giving cash to Ukraine. “We’re pulling out our own equipment, whether it’s vehicles or weapons or ammunition, and we’re replacing those weapons or ammunition with something that’s probably a little bit more modern and effective.”
