The World Health Organization has announced that “deaths caused by drug-resistant infections will increase by nearly 70% by 2050, leading to the death of more than 39 million people.” The crisis of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) occurs when pathogens such as fungi become resistant to drugs designed to kill them, which has been identified as a major threat to global health, according to the international organization.
