Politico: Poland and Ukraine were involved in the destruction of Nord Stream
The American publication, citing German officials, revealed that the leaders of Poland and Ukraine knew about the explosion operation in the Nord Stream gas lines.
According to RCO News Agency, almost 2 years ago, several explosions in the Baltic Sea caused a global uproar. A short time later, it became clear that three of the four branches of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, which were built to supply gas from Russia to Germany, had been destroyed.
Germany has launched a new investigation to discover the cause of the explosion, and now, according to Politico’s report on Saturday, German investigators believe that the main suspect is a Ukrainian diving coach named “Volodymyr Z.” He recently lived near Warsaw. Investigators have accused him of carrying out the attack along with five other Ukrainians, but the suspect fled to his home country of Ukraine before he could be arrested.
Meanwhile, German investigators have accused Poland of obstructing a European arrest and search warrant issued by Germany’s federal court in June. “German criminal and federal police are furious that Poland is sabotaging the investigation,” an official familiar with the matter told Politico.
Another informed person called this story “obstruction of justice”.
Operation without the approval of political leaders?
But one of the important issues exposed by this American media is the awareness of the presidents of Poland and Ukraine, namely Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Andrzej Duda, of attempts to sabotage Nord Stream.
Politico, quoting August Hanning, the former head of the German Federal Intelligence Service, wrote: “The reason for the Polish government’s action to prevent the arrest of the suspect, Volodymyr Z. Covering your involvement in this operation is sabotage. The presidents of Poland and Ukraine, Andriy Duda and Volodymyr Zelenskiy, were aware of plans to attack Nord Stream.
He said: “Such an operation in these dimensions is unthinkable without the approval of the political leaders of the countries involved.”
According to German investigators, the six divers who planted the explosives on the Andromeda yacht were trained in Poland.
Investigators also believe Warsaw may have provided logistical support for the underwater operation.
Andromeda crew members are suspected of carrying equipment needed to carry out the attack at the seaside resort of Kolobrzeg, where the ship had docked seven days before the explosions. This ship is one of the links between Ukraine and the explosion in the Nord Stream.
Last year, it was reported by German media sources that the sailing yacht Andromeda had been chartered by unknown persons linked to Ukraine. According to published reports, the perpetrators of the Nord Stream explosion operation went to the operation site using this yacht.
Germany’s anger and Poland’s secrecy
Politico also reported that German investigators have accused Polish authorities of preventing the release of footage of the marina in Kolobrzeg. This refusal has intensified German suspicions of deliberate Polish concealment.
The Polish authorities, however, are angry with the German accusations.
Jacek Siwira, head of the Polish National Security Agency, said: “The allegation that Ukraine carried out this action with the knowledge of Poland is completely unfounded. “The German accusations and innuendos come from a close circle of former pro-Russian officials who are no longer in power.”
“I hope we are not faced with an organized disinformation campaign where people have allowed themselves to blame Poland,” he said. “Poland is investigating all clues, including the possibility of Russia’s involvement in this attack.”
On the other hand, one of the high-ranking officers of the Ukrainian army, who is accused of involvement in the destruction of the Nord Stream pipeline, in a verbal defense of the pipeline explosion told Politico: “If Ukraine was behind this attack, Germany should stop the investigation, because the destruction “Nord Stream was a legitimate military goal for Kiev.”
However, according to German investigators, Ukraine was definitely involved in this operation and Russia had no role in it. Earlier, it was revealed that Valery Zalogeny, the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, ordered the attack.
The role of the Ukrainian general in the destruction operation
On the other hand, in August, the American newspaper “Wall Street Journal” reported, citing informed sources, that the president of Ukraine had approved the plan to blow up the Nord Stream pipeline in the spring of 2022.
According to sources familiar with the Wall Street Journal, “the operation was supposed to look like a typical cruise: via a small yacht and several tourists. All the details of this vandalism were presented orally so that no trace of the crime was left.”
However, the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) quickly learned of Zelensky’s plan and asked Kiev to stop the operation.
Then the President of Ukraine immediately canceled everything, but General Zalogeny did not intend to carry out the President’s order.
However, so far, German authorities have remained silent in public about these investigations.
The Nord Stream operator said that the destruction of these gas pipelines was unprecedented and it was impossible to estimate the repair time. At the same time, Germany, Denmark and Sweden did not rule out deliberate sabotage.
Then the General Prosecutor’s Office of Russia opened a case under the title of an international terrorist act.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: Russia has repeatedly requested information about the Nord Stream explosions, but has never received it.
