Massive Russian missile and drone attack on Ukrainian military facilities
Russia has targeted the country’s defense industry facilities in a series of large-scale attacks with air strike warnings throughout Ukraine. Ukrainian media reported explosions in a number of cities across Ukraine, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Odessa. Ukraine’s largest energy company also announced an emergency shutdown across Ukraine.
According to RCO News Agency, this morning (Monday), August 26, at the same time as the Russian missile and drone attack, the sound of explosions was heard in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, and in other cities across the country.
Air raid sirens were said to have sounded across Ukraine just before 6am.
Independent Kyiv reporters reported that they heard explosions in the capital shortly before 8:30 a.m. Several minutes later, several more explosions were heard. Other sounds were heard minutes after 9:00 a.m., shortly after the Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian MiG-31s, which are used to launch Kinzhal ballistic missiles, were seen in the sky.
According to local authorities, power cuts in Kyiv began after these explosions, and a total of 12 explosions have occurred in Kyiv.
Shortly after 9:00 a.m., Ukraine’s largest private energy company (DTEK) announced an emergency power outage across Ukraine.
Also, Ihor Terkhov, the mayor of Kharkiv, reported that an explosion was heard in this city as well.
Explosions were also reported in Odessa, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, Kremenchuk, Dnipro, Khmelnytskyi, Krupionitskyi, and Kiriyiv.
Ihor Polishchuk, the mayor of Lutsk, in northwestern Ukraine, said an apartment building was damaged in the city. He then announced that one person was killed as a result of these attacks.
The Ukrainian Air Force initially reported the activity of 11 Russian bombers as well as a large number of kamikaze drones moving towards cities across the country.
The Ukrainian Air Force announced after firing several groups of missiles of different types.
It was later announced that six more Russian bombers were in the sky.
Also, Sputnik News agency reported that an energy facility in Odessa was attacked.
There was also a big explosion in the city of Ester in the Lviv region, which led to a power outage.
In Ivano-Frankivsk, a city in western Ukraine, an attack was carried out on a warehouse containing military equipment, and an explosion occurred in another area where Ukrainian forces had hidden two F-16 fighter jets.
In the city of Volyn, located in the northwest, an attack was also carried out on a Ukrainian military site.
