Macao, a special region in southern China, has become a city with attractive contradictions with a unique combination of Portuguese history and Chinese culture. The city, which was ruled by China on December 5, shows a picture of tradition and modernity, along with luxurious structures and modern skyscrapers, along with ancient temples and narrow streets.
Macao has witnessed a huge change in the economic and structural field after the transfer; But many of its inhabitants still live in traditional style. However, street markets and stalls that once symbolized the city are apparently fading.
Social contradictions in the daily lives of the Macao people are clearly evident; Modern buildings and luxury hotels are next to old residential homes and the difficult living conditions of many residents. On the one hand, a stagnant and poor city, and on the other hand, the brilliant skyscrapers and glorious structures represent the vast class divide in the area.
Photography called Eduardo Leal has recorded the city’s specific moments and has shown its contradictions closely.
