With the introduction of the new Bixby beta program in One UI 8.5, Samsung has transformed this assistant into a conversation-oriented and smarter tool that simplifies interaction with Galaxy devices and expands access to up-to-date web answers.
Samsung Electronics announced the beginning of the beta program of the new version of Bixby; An upgraded version focusing on conversation-oriented capabilities, which is supposed to make the experience of user interaction with Galaxy devices more natural and transparent. In this update, users can raise their requests only through dialogue and at the same time have wider access to up-to-date web-based answers; An action that indicates Samsung’s move towards deeper intelligence of its ecosystem.
Won Joon Choi, Chief Operating Officer of Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Experience (MX) Division, announced that since the introduction of the company’s first AI-powered phone in 2024, Samsung has focused on simplifying users’ access to AI capabilities. According to him, in this regard, the assistant of the device is directly integrated into the user experience, and Bixby has also been redesigned with the aim of providing more natural interactions, easier control of the device and facilitating daily tasks.
Easy device control through natural conversation
Relying on natural language technology, Bixby allows users to control Galaxy devices without having to know the exact names of settings or technical commands. Users can make their request by simply explaining their request or asking about the reason for something happening on the device, and this smart assistant will take the appropriate action after understanding the user’s intent. This feature, which is part of Samsung Electronics’ broader efforts to develop a user experience based on artificial intelligence, is designed with the aim of reducing the complexity of managing settings and saving users time and effort in the daily use of smart devices.
For example, a user can say something like “I don’t want the display to turn off when looking at the screen.” After understanding the user’s request, Bixby automatically activates the “screen stay on while viewing” setting, without the need to search through the device’s menus or learn the exact name of the feature. This approach is designed with the aim of simplifying user interaction with smart devices and reducing the manual steps of making settings.
In its new version, instead of providing general guidance, Bixby can analyze the current state of the device and propose a set of solutions tailored to the user’s needs. This intelligent approach helps users to perform their desired tasks faster and easier and have a smoother user experience even if they are unfamiliar with the device or its features by reducing the trial and error process.
If a user asks, “Why does the screen stay on when the phone is in my pocket?”, Bixby will detect the situation of the question and show the user the relevant settings such as “Protection against accidental touch” and enable the direct activation of this option, so that the problem can be solved quickly without having to search in the settings section.
Web search capabilities
Bixby also supports real-time web search and can access live and up-to-date information; So that the results are displayed directly in the user interface of this smart assistant. This feature allows users to check the topics they want in an integrated experience without the need to transfer to the browser or other applications and get answers to their questions faster and keep their focus on the current activity.
In one of its new uses, Bixby can also process complex user requests; For example, if a user says “Find hotels in Seoul that have a children’s pool”, this smart assistant will display relevant search results directly in its user interface after analyzing the request, so that users can check the available options without delay and make a faster decision.
