With the unveiling of the S-500 missile system, Russia claimed the end of the air superiority of the West; Read more about the capabilities of this B-21 fighter-bomber here.
By unveiling its latest military masterpiece, Moscow has staked a big claim in the air combat equation. It seems that the S-500 missile system, known as Prometheus, has come to be a powerful complement to the S-400, ending the era of the United States‘ 5th and 6th generation stealth fighters.
The New B-21 Bomber Nightmare
Russian officials have clearly stated that this new system has the ability to intercept and destroy the most advanced American aircraft such as the F-22 Raptor and the F-35 Lightning 2. The point of concern for the Pentagon is the defense system’s claim of being able to hunt down the newly-arrived B-21 Raider strategic bomber. Although Western analysts look at these claims with skepticism, they affirm the power of Russian air defense digital multi-band radars in detecting hidden targets.

Of course, experts believe that there are many technical differences between detecting a spot on the radar and locking a missile on a high-speed target, which has not yet been proven in the field. However, if the operational range of 600 kilometers of the S-500 missile system is true, NATO will face a serious challenge in Eastern Europe and Russia will be able to control a large part of the sky.
Shifting balance of power in the Pacific
In addition, the ability to target 10 ultrasonic ballistic warheads at the same time has made S500 Prometheus a strategic defensive shield. Washington’s bigger concern is the possibility of exporting this advanced technology to China and India, which could change the military equation in the Pacific in favor of the Eastern allies and introduce their engineers to electronic warfare countermeasures.
