Almost everyone has come to the conclusion that Apple’s iPhone Air was a commercial failure. For this reason, even prominent companies are afraid of entering the ultra-thin phone market.
It was in May of this year that Samsung started competing in the very thin phone market by unveiling the Galaxy S25 Edge. Phones that have very little thickness and weight and are not annoying in long-term use. After Samsung, it was Apple’s turn to reveal the art of its engineers to the world by unveiling the iPhone Air. However, the commercial failure of the iPhone Air has made others skeptical about this new market.
The failure of the iPhone Air has caused the Chinese to retreat
After the decision of Samsung and Apple to produce ultra-thin phones, other companies also prepared their plans. The last phone introduced in this section is the Motorola Edge 70 with a thickness of less than 6 mm. However, it seems that users are not very interested in these phones.
Since the unveiling of the iPhone Air, we have regularly seen reports about the poor sales of this phone and reduced production. Apple’s supply lines have also limited their orders. Foxconn, Apple’s main supplier, has dismantled all iPhone Air production lines, and Luxher, another Apple supplier, has stopped its production since the end of October.

Due to the poor reception of users, competing companies such as Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo have also decided to stop or change their plans for very slim models. For example, eSIM-based designs are supposed to be transferred to other devices or product lines.
Until now, Xiaomi wanted to show off its power to Apple by unveiling a very thin phone. Vivo also wanted to reduce the thickness of its mid-range S series phones. However, both companies have now canceled these plans.

Apple expected the new look of the iPhone Air to create a lot of excitement among users. Especially since we are witnessing the first serious change in iPhone design since iPhone X. However, reaching a thickness of 5.6 mm has also had costs. Apple has been forced to reduce the battery capacity of the iPhone Air and use only one camera on the back. Despite this, Apple has set a high price for this model. Maybe this is the reason why we see the commercial failure of iPhone Air.
Currently, the price of this model starts at $999. That means it’s only $100 cheaper than the iPhone 17 Pro with its powerful triple camera and large battery. It is said that Apple itself wants to make important changes in the next generation of this phone. They want the iPhone Air 2 to have a bigger battery and a second camera.
Interestingly, Samsung is also not satisfied with the sales situation of the Galaxy S25 Edge. The Koreans have completely canceled the Galaxy S26 Edge project and stopped the production of the Galaxy S25 Edge.
