Life in space is full of strange rules. Learn about the 5 -way astronauts at the International Space Station that you never imagined.
Life as an astronaut, with all its attractions, also brings a set of rigorous and sometimes strange rules that are imposed to maintain security, health and efficiency of equipment. These rules include obvious to very specific points, and their reasons are not always safety. Sometimes simple policy and technical issues are the main reason for some of these limitations.
List of prohibited work of astronauts at the space station
Here are five of the most important forbidden works of astronauts at the International Space Station (ISS).
1. Drinking alcohol and using alcohol -containing products

You might think that the reason for this ban is to prevent astronauts from being drunk in a multi -billion dollar environment, but the main reason is much more technical. Ethanol in alcoholic beverages can cause serious damage to the space station’s water recovery system. This vital system purifies sweat, exhaled moisture and even urine of astronauts and converts it into drinking water. For this reason, even the use of everyday alcohol -containing products such as mouthwashes and After Effects is forbidden.
2. Eating some foods and drinks

Under weaving, gas bubbles are not separated from liquids. Therefore, drinking carbonated beverages leads to a phenomenon called “wet burst” which is very unpleasant. Bread is also prohibited due to the production of small crumbs. These crumbs are suspended in space and can enter sensitive equipment or damage the astronauts. For this reason, astronauts use Tortilla bread instead of bread. Powder spices such as salt and pepper are also forbidden.
1. Invite Chinese astronauts

Since 2008, the US Congress has passed a law that banned NASA’s official cooperation with the Chinese space program for national security concerns. For this reason, no Chinese astronaut has ever been allowed to enter the International Space Station. This is a purely political restriction that has influenced international scientific cooperation.
1. Showering in a traditional way

It is impossible to shower in space. In weaving conditions, soap and water stick to everything and make the washing and rinse process impossible. Astronauts use an advanced sponge bath method at the space station. They use liquid soap, water from special bags and shampoos without the need for rinse and dry with a towel.
1. Romantic relationships

NASA has formally banned any romantic relationship in space. The main reason for this law is to prevent the possible pregnancy risks of an astronaut in space. Pregnancy can put a lot of pressure on the station’s limited resources such as food, oxygen and medical equipment. After a married couple was dispatched together in year 6, NASA turned the unwritten law into an official and stone law.
