With the release of iOS 18.2, Apple has introduced a new feature to users that allows them to record their voice while playing a structured song without the need for headphones. This feature, which has been added to the voice memo application, will be available for iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max users. In this new version of iOS, users can record their voice while playing a song from the speaker and save both at the same time.
According to Tekna technology news media service, the device’s microphone also records the sound of the instrument, but Apple has announced that the A18 Pro chip in the iPhone 16, using “advanced processing and machine learning”, can separate the singer’s voice from the instrument’s sound and save in a separate layer. Users will then be able to combine these layers or edit them individually.
This feature was introduced for the first time in September of this year at the same time as the release of the iPhone 16 Pro. According to information posted on Apple’s support page, users can play multi-layered audio files on devices running iOS 18.2 or later, but these files will not play on older devices. To play these files on older devices, the audio layers need to be separated.
The addition of layered recording to the Voice Memos app makes it even more useful for musicians and creatives. These recordings are easily synced to Voice Memo on Mac and iPad and can be transferred to Logic Pro software for more detailed editing.
