The threshold for the use of nuclear weapons in Russia has decreased and at the same time a high-ranking Russian officer has disclosed sensitive information about his country’s nuclear activities.
Following the US and UK’s green light for Ukraine to fire long-range missiles at Russia, Vladimir Putin announced that the threshold for using nuclear weapons in Russia has been lowered. In this situation, a high-ranking Russian officer known by the nickname Anton has disclosed sensitive information about his country’s nuclear activities.
Antoine, who previously worked at a secret nuclear site, fled Russia and sought refuge abroad after being threatened with being sent to the front lines of the war with Ukraine. Russia had previously used the Orshnik ballistic missile in response to the granting of a license to use long-range missiles.
Russia is ready for a nuclear attack
In an interview with reporter Will Vernon, this officer gave details of living and working conditions at this nuclear site. He explained that the center’s staff were under strict surveillance and their contact with the outside world was severely limited. Antoine added:
Our task was to prepare to repel the enemy’s nuclear attacks and also to plan for our own nuclear attacks. The process of selecting the troops was very difficult and under control and we were connected to lie detectors.
Antoine also pointed to documents that corroborate his claims and reveal details of the nuclear site’s activities. According to him, on the day the war with Ukraine started, our forces were on full alert and no one was allowed to leave. The nuclear weapons were placed in their respective locations and we were fully prepared for a potential conflict. The alert was lifted after a few weeks, but concerns about the use of nuclear weapons remained, he added.
This officer responded to the criticism of some experts who believe that Russia’s nuclear weapons are no longer operational. He emphasized that Russia has a large arsenal of nuclear warheads and activities related to the maintenance and preparation of these weapons are ongoing. Antoine said:
It is an understatement for experts to think that our weapons are inoperable. We are constantly monitoring the status of our nuclear weapons.
Finally, Antoine spoke of his concerns about the possibility of being found by Russian forces. He stated that the security services and the local police were looking for him and this matter worried him greatly. However, he is determined to continue leaking information and help other soldiers escape Russia. The revelations could pose a serious threat to Russia’s national security and worry the Kremlin that officers like Anton would gain access to more military secrets.
