Apple has taken a big step towards making it easier to track down lost items with the introduction of the new ‘Location Sharing’ feature in iOS 18.2. This feature allows users to share the exact location of objects such as Airtags with others, including airlines.
According to Tekna Technology Media Technology News Service, using this feature, users can create a secure link that shows the exact location of the lost device. This link can easily be shared with anyone, including airlines. If a luggage is lost at the airport, the user can share this link with the airport officials to quickly find their luggage.
Apple has partnered with several major airlines, including United, Delta and British Airways, to improve the service. These airlines now use Apple’s location links to track lost luggage. Apple cares about user privacy. Because of this, location links are automatically disabled after a week or when the device is found. Also, users can disable this link manually at any time.
Currently, the Android operating system does not have such a complete feature. Android users can share the location of their devices with friends and family, but not with large organizations like airlines. By using this feature, users can find their lost items more quickly and accurately.
