Despite the officials' promise to import 200,000 cars by this summer, statistics show that the number of cars imported into the country was only two percent of this amount.
It has been months since the authorities approved the liberalization of the import of foreign cars. In these months, the officials made colorful promises about car imports and claimed that they would respond to the market's needs with the arrival of imported cars; From the import of economic cars for the general public to the arrival of a large number of cars in the country, there were promises that perhaps made us a little optimistic about the improvement of the market situation at first. But now we see in the latest car news that none of the officials' promises about car imports have been fulfilled.
One of the most important promises of the government and the Ministry of Security was the arrival of 200,000 foreign cars by this summer. Mehdi Zaighmi, the head of the Trade Development Organization, also said that a lot of foreign cars will enter the country from June 1402 onwards. In March of last year, the government started the pre-sale of imported cars and about 34 thousand people registered with the condition of blocking the amount of 500 million Tomans in the proxy account. Later, about four thousand people canceled and almost 30 thousand people remained in the queue to buy imported cars.
The officials' promises about the number of cars imported into the country have been broken day by day. While it was initially said that 200,000 cars were to be launched on the Iranian market by this summer, the head of the Trade Development Organization said in October of this year that according to the Ministry of Security, it is possible to import at least 60,000 cars by the end of this year. Two months later, in December 1402, Mehdi Zaighmi stated that by the end of this year, there is a capacity to import 40,000 cars, provided that the Central Bank provides currency. Aliabadi, the minister of security of the 13th government, after sitting on the chair of the ministry of industry, mining and trade, said that by the end of 2012, we plan to import 100,000 electric cars into the country.
Disappointing statistics of the number of cars imported into the country
But now we see that none of these beautiful promises have turned into reality. According to the statistics published by the customs, only 4386 foreign cars have definitely entered the country since the liberalization of car imports. This means that only two percent of the promise of importing 200,000 cars has been realized. The cars imported into the country have a value of 86 million and 478 thousand dollars, and the figures are far from the promises of the government and the ministry of silence.
As it seems and the relevant officials comment, apparently the main problem of foreign car dropper import to Iran is the issue of currency supply. Allocation of currency requires a period of three to four months, and the central bank must cooperate in this regard. However, the lack of foreign exchange has created a serious problem in the process of importing cars. On the other hand, after Aliabadi was given the chair of the Ministry of Privacy, there were changes in the policies of this ministry. Now the government, especially the Ministry of Security, is putting a lot of emphasis on the import of electric cars, and this has led to a deviation in the path of car imports. Aliabadi even announced the provision of foreign exchange for the import of electric cars, and it seems that the government has given all its focus and priority to the import of this category of cars.
In any case, it is true that imported cars with their astronomical prices do not heal the pain of the Iranian car market, but currently many applicants and registrants of these cars are waiting in line and are in a state of uncertainty. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify the duties of this category of customers as soon as possible and the authorities and importing companies to speed up the process of importing cars.
