An American startup has developed a new type of brain-computer interface, which this time works by placing it on the surface of the brain.
According to Tekna technology and technology news service, the American company Precision Neuroscience has developed a new type of interface targeting the brain tissue in Beirut. Apart from Elon Musk and Noralink, other companies are also active in this field. The new tapes made by West Virginia University researchers have a texture similar to silicone and can be placed on the surface of patients’ brains.
These strips are the size of a thumb nail and can easily stick to brain tissue due to their unique design. By placing the implants on the surface of the brain for 15 minutes, they can record the location of electrical activities in the brain in a place in the frontal lobe. The patients of this study who were used to test this interface were hospitalized due to brain tumor removal.
This is the first test and study of Precision in the construction of brain interfaces. The company plans to receive the axis of this device from the US Food and Drug Administration in the near future. It also plans to replace the electrodes that are currently used to detect tumors and epilepsy. Then in the future, use it for people with cerebral palsy. These interfaces can decode them by receiving brain signals. After being translated into other commands by electrical devices, this information is converted into other actions such as typing on the screen.
