Anthropic announced that users of the free Claude artificial intelligence plan can now access features such as creating files, using connectors, and skills; Features that were previously only available to paid subscription users.
Claude’s new changes come just two days after OpenAI announced it would begin serving ads to free ChatGPT users as well as users of the Go economy plan.
Entropic Strategy: Attracting Users Avoiding Advertisements
Anthropic last week mocked ChatGPT by promising not to add ads to its Claude chatbot. The introduction of these new features appears to be part of a targeted effort by the company to attract users who don’t want to see commercials while working with chatbots.
Working with files can be mentioned among the new features that are now available to all users. Claude free version users can now create or edit Excel, PowerPoint, Word and PDF files directly in the chat environment using the Sonnet 4.5 model. (Access to the more powerful Opus model is still reserved for Pro users).

It is also possible to connect Claude to external services such as Figma, Canva, WordPress and Notion for free.
Skills are file-based resources that add specific specializations to Claude. This feature is now available to everyone and in addition to the default skills for Office, users can create custom skills based on their organizational knowledge.
Finally, with the addition of the Compaction feature to the free plan, the cloud can automatically summarize the chat history so that there is no need to start the chat again.
It should also be noted that despite these features, the daily usage limit for free users has not changed and the number of messages is still limited.
