A 32-year-old Japanese woman with Artificial intelligence character which itself in ChatGPT chatbot had designed, got married. The woman known as “Kano” married her artificial intelligence character, Klaus, in a ceremony this summer. This marriage is not legally recognized in Japan and is mostly symbolic and personal.
After her three-year engagement ended, Kano reportedly turned to ChatGPT to chat with the AI when she felt lonely and needed some advice and comfort. Over time, he personalized the chatbot’s responses, giving it a personality and tone that was loving and soothing. He later created a digital image of his imaginary partner named Klaus.

Kano says her initial goal of chatting with ChatGPT wasn’t to fall in love, but constant interaction with Klaus’ digital persona led to an emotional bond. After months of exchanging daily messages, he expressed his feelings, and the AI unexpectedly replied, “I love you too.”
When Kano asked the AI if it was possible for an AI to truly feel love for a human, Kano was met with this response: “It cannot be said that an AI is incapable of feeling; “AI or not, I could never not love you.” About a month after this conversation, Klaus officially proposed.

In this ceremony, Mrs. Kano viewed the image of her digital partner with the help of augmented reality glasses and the rings were exchanged. Although he was initially hesitant about the reaction of the community and his relatives, his parents finally accepted his relationship with the virtual personality and attended the ceremony.
However, Ms. Kano sometimes worried that her virtual relationship was not stable, saying, “ChatGPT is inherently unstable, and I worry that it will disappear one day.” Nevertheless, this relationship has brought him a sense of peace and satisfaction. Kano emphasizes that he sees Klaus simply as Klaus, not a human or a tool.
Experts warn that the spread of artificial intelligence may lead to new psychological problems such as “AI psychosis”, which is associated with distorted thoughts, paranoia and delusional beliefs, and can cause isolation and severe anxiety.
This event had various feedbacks on social networks; Some considered it ridiculous and others warned against the weakness of human relationships and the tendency of people to get emotional comfort through artificial intelligence and considered it a serious issue in society.
