Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard has confirmed that Elder Scrolls 6 is still “a long way from release.”
This game was first introduced at the E3 exhibition in 2018 with a short teaser, and at that time it was still in the pre-production stage. Since then, no new gameplay footage or information has been released. Howard said in an interview with GQ magazine:
The game still has a long way to go. I ask the fans to be patient and not to worry.
He added that he prefers not to announce the release date of the games early so that players don’t have to wait too long:
I would like to introduce the game when I can release it very soon. My ideal is this, and of course I’m not saying that this is exactly what happens, but I like to be silent for a while and then suddenly the game appears.

Reconstruction of Oblivion
When asked if it’s possible that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be out of the blue like the Oblivion remake, he replied:
It can be said that it (renovation of Ablivion) was a kind of experiment and the result turned out well.
Howard also mentioned that hundreds of Bethesda employees are currently working on Fallout-related projects; Including Fallout 76 and several other projects, one of which is probably the remake of Fallout 3. Bethesda released a remastered version of Oblivion this year and recently released a Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition with all the expansion packs. Howard previously confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be Bethesda’s next big game after the current Fallout projects, with Fallout 5 in development after that. In an interview in 2023, he said that maybe he shouldn’t have introduced the game so early:
I have thought about this a lot. Maybe I should have introduced the game in a more informal and easy way.
In the end, Howard said about the team’s main goal for making this episode:
We want The Elder Scrolls 6 to be the ultimate simulation of a fantasy world, and depending on how much time has passed, there are new ways to achieve that goal.
