Netflix and A24 are teaming up to bring the multiplayer cooking game Overcooked to TV.
According to a Deadline report, this adaptation of the thrilling Ghost Town Games series will take the form of an unscripted real racing series. The Overcooked series is in the early stages of production and this will be A24’s first experience in making such competitions. Of course, Netflix has a lot of experience in this area, including shows like The Great British Baking Show, Sugar Rush, as well as several spin-offs of these shows.
However, the Overcooked series will apparently be distinguished by the characteristically chaotic and exciting cooking challenges that popularized the video game that inspired it. While Overcooked is A24’s first racing project, the studio is working on other video game adaptations, including movies based on Death Stranding and Elden Ring.
It should be noted that the first episode of Overcooked was released in 2016 and quickly became popular due to its fast and exciting cooking style and service. In this game, players must quickly prepare ingredients, cook and clean, while dealing with multiple orders, dangers such as kitchen fires and angry colleagues. In addition to the hustle and bustle of the game, strange cooking environments have also been added. Chefs cook on moving trucks, floating ice, next to volcanic lava, and even in outer space. Overcooked 2 was released in 2018 and added new recipes and new challenges to the four player mode of the original game.
If A24 and Netflix dare to send budding chefs into space or put them on a floating pirate ship, Overcooked looks like it’s going to be fun not only to play, but also to watch. Currently, no specific release date has been announced for the broadcast of this series.
