According to Mehr news agency, quoted by Telegraph, Google’s artificial intelligence “Bard” gave a misleading answer to a question about the NASA telescope, and after that, the shares of Alphabet (Google’s parent company) decreased by 8%. In fact, Bard is an artificial intelligence search assistant that Google uses to generate text summaries on search results pages.
However, an animated image of Google Bard distributed by the company to mark the launch of the new feature gives the wrong answer to a question. This raised many questions about the validity of the search engine and the answers generated by artificial intelligence in response to human queries.
An animated GIF shows the bard at work, during which a user writes in the search field: “Which of the new discoveries of the James Webb Space Telescope can I explain to my 9-year-old?”
This NASA telescope entered the operational stage in December 2021 and researchers have used it to discover several planets outside the solar system.
One of Bard’s answers to this question was that “James Wetin’s E telescope recorded images of a planet outside the solar system.”
This answer is not correct because the first images of the planet outside the solar system were recorded in 2004 by a telescope in Chile.
This has raised concerns about the inaccuracy of data generated by artificial intelligence systems.
The 8% decrease in Alphabet’s shares is the largest decrease in the value of its shares since October 2022. On that date, after the decrease in sales of products and services, profitability and growth of Alphabet, its share value decreased by 9%.
