Samsung seems to be planning a big strategic change in its future flagship series, the Galaxy S26. While we have just seen the unveiling of the company’s new folding handsets, information revealed from informed sources shows that we should probably say goodbye to one of the old Sun series models. This new information, leaked through the Sammypolice website, suggests that Samsung plans to remove the Plus model from the Galaxy S26 family and instead introduce the Edge model as a replacement. If these rumors come true, we will face one of the most important changes in the combination of Samsung flagship products in the last few years.
The main evidence of this change lies in the number of new models recorded for the Galaxy S26 series. These numbers are fundamentally different from Samsung’s permanent pattern and put a new combination in front of us. The number of the leaked models is as follows:
- Galaxy S26: With SM-S942 code
- Galaxy S26 Edge: with SM-S947 code
- Galaxy S26 Ultra: With SM-S948 Code
Samsung has traditionally used the standard model for the standard model, for the Plus model, the code leading to 6 and the Ultra model from the code to 8. The absence of a code that ends with 6 and the presence of Codie with terminal 7 (dedicated to the Edge model) is the strongest reason to believe that the Plus model in the new generation is replaced by the model. Samsung seems to come to the conclusion that the audience of the Plus and Edge models is largely overlapping and focusing on a more logical model.
Another interesting thing is to change the base version number from the SM-S9X1 to SM-S942. This numerical jump is usually not accidental and can be a sign of an important hardware improvement. Analysts suspect that this change may mean improvements such as a larger screen or a dramatic increase in the battery capacity in the standard Galaxy S26 model to make it less different from the Edge model. This strategy, the removal of the Plus model and focusing on the new designs, is the path that Apple will also take for the iPhone 17 series, and we may see a new trend in the mobile industry.
