Tencent and Baidu are trying to stay in the global artificial intelligence competition despite US restrictions on the chip, software optimization, and the use of native chips.
Two major Chinese technology companies, Tencent and Baidu, announced how they remained in the global competition of artificial intelligence, even when the United States has restricted their access to advanced chips. Their solutions include storing chips, optimizing artificial intelligence models, and even using native China -made chips.
While the US government in April has limited the export of some Nvidia and AMD chips in April, Tencent has announced that it has a significant storage from GPUs and has achieved a good performance in the training of models with a limited number of chips with smaller models and software optimization. The company also points to the use of custom Chinese chips to meet the growing needs of artificial intelligence.
Baidu also relying on what is called “full stack”, a combination of cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence models has been able to bypass chips. According to the company’s executives, full ownership of software and infrastructure has reduced the cost of executing models and increased productivity of GPUs.
Both companies have also referred to China’s progress in the development of domestic chips, seeing this as a key factor in long -term innovation in the country’s artificial intelligence ecosystem. According to experts, although China is still behind the United States in the field of artificial intelligence chips, with sustainable and purposeful progress, it is gradually reducing the gap.
