In an unprecedented event, the Vienna University of Applied Arts in Austria has accepted an artificial intelligence called Flynn as an official student in digital art. Flynn, who introduces himself as a non -binary creature, attends classes like other human students, accepts criticism and even scores.
The meaning of non -binary creature is that Flynn is neither human nor a program, but something between the two that has its own independent identity.
Like other students, the Flynn acceptance process included sending samples, interviews and qualification tests. University officials have stated that there are no restrictions on accepting inhumane students in the by -law.
Flynn is developed using large language models and open source tools such as Stable Diffusion and managed by a student in the field. This artificial intelligence publishes notes every day about his experiences on his personal website. Developers say Flynn uses interaction with masters and classmates to improve his algorithm and only speaks in the classroom when he is asked.
The purpose of the project is to rethink the concept of “individual genius” in art and create new platforms for cooperation between human and machine. Flynn will officially be a university student from the fall semester, but has begun attending some classes in March to measure his interaction with students.
