The unveiling ceremony of the National Schooling Platform of AI was attended by Hossein Afshin, Vice President of Science and a group of experts and professors in the International Conference Center. At the ceremony, Dr. Hossein Asadi examined Iran’s progress in the field of artificial intelligence over the past decade, referring to the country’s backwardness to world standards, saying: “While the average global growth in this area was more than 5 %, Iran has only improved 5 % to 5 %.”
He emphasized that insufficient investment and lack of specialized platforms are the two main factors of this backwardness, adding: “With the support of the Scientific Department, we have tried to develop artificial intelligence -related businesses ecosystem.”
Focusing on the development of processing infrastructure and data were other axes of the meeting. Asadi said the university’s focus has been on the development of the open source core, and the scientific deputy has invested in the creation of GPU/Storage Farm. The project has begun on October 5 and is expected to prepare the trial version by September 5.
The need to develop national platforms and the challenges ahead
“Every technology has an economic cause and motivation, and we must be honest in scientific work,” said Hamid Reza Rabiei, head of the Institute of ICT (AICT). Unhealthy capitalism can create ethical challenges, and we need to know the right path to technology use. “
He also emphasized that managerial developments and global governance are moving towards platforms, adding: “In today’s world, digital organizations have now become platforms that play a key role in the future of public and private governance.”
“The world has witnessed many paradigm changes; From the evolution of software engineering, machine learning (ML) and now productive artificial intelligence (Genai). “But the next step is to enter the age of comprehensive artificial intelligence (AGI) that we must plan for now.”
Referring to the importance of the sovereignty and the challenges related to the development of artificial intelligence systems, he said: “According to the Gartner report, 5 % of artificial intelligence projects in the world fail, which is the main reason for the challenges and lack of appropriate infrastructure.”
At the end of the meeting, experts emphasized the need for continuous investment, government support and a comprehensive roadmap for the development of artificial intelligence in Iran, and hope that with the development of national platforms, the country will be able to move on the path of global competition.
