Google introduced a “artificial intelligence scientific partner” on Wednesday designed to help human researchers accelerate scientific discoveries. In one of the initial experiments, the system was able to solve the scientific mystery within two days that confused scientists for more than a decade.
This tool is based on the Gemini 2.0 artificial intelligence model and is designed to provide new scientific hypotheses, detailed research browsing and experimental protocols. Its main purpose is to accelerate scientific and biological research and increase their efficiency.
Scientists can work with this system by introducing their research purpose into the natural language. They also have their suggestions, feedback and reviews. Google has emphasized that the tool is designed to help scientists and is not going to automate the scientific process to reduce concerns about human replacement by artificial intelligence.
The initial results are promising
This system is currently only for the selected researchers in the program Trusted Tester Google is available and about 5 prominent researchers are testing it.
Researchers at the University of Stanford, Houston Hospital, and the London College Imperial College were the first to use the system. Imperial scientists who have been investigating antibiotics resistant bacteria for many years have found that this artificial intelligence could provide the hypothesis they had gained over a decade of research within a few days.
Security and ethical concerns
In a report, Google has cited the system’s limitations and the need to create security measures against immoral research and malicious use. There are concerns about cyber abuse and the ability to access unauthorized scientific data.
However, scientists who have tested this system hope for its potential. “If this system works as we expect, it can transform the path of research and prevent time on scientific stalemate,” said Tiago Dias Da Costa of the London College College.
