Microsoft has made advanced AI search available to Windows Insider testers by introducing a new beta version in the Windows 11 Developer Channel. Introduced in October, the feature uses semantic indexing to allow users to search their local files using conversational language. To access this feature, you need a computer equipped with Copilot Plus.
Smart local search and advanced features
According to “TheVerge” report, this artificial intelligence search can be used in various parts of the system, including Windows settings, File Explorer, and the taskbar, and thanks to the Neural Processing (NPU) chips in Copilot Plus devices, it also works without an Internet connection. Currently, this feature is limited to Windows settings and text and image files such as JPEG, PNG, PDF, TXT and XLS.
Microsoft has announced that this search feature will only consider files in locations that users have selected for indexing. Users can set these locations through Settings > Privacy & security > Searching Windows. An option called “Enhanced” also allows indexing of the entire system. In the future, this feature will be extended to data stored in the cloud, such as OneDrive.
Also, this feature will be available first for Copilot Plus devices equipped with Snapdragon chips, then it will be available for computers with Intel and AMD Copilot Plus chips. Currently, this feature supports Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish languages.
Artificial intelligence writing tools in addition to search functionality
In the new build of Windows, in addition to this search feature, new artificial intelligence tools are provided to help with writing under the Click to Do system. Click to Do is a feature that allows you to access a menu corresponding to the content of the page by holding down the Windows button and left-clicking on the screen. Now, an option titled “Refine” has been added to the Rewrite menu, which can correct grammatical errors in text.
The introduced features, including advanced search and new writing tools, are another step towards improving the integration of artificial intelligence in Windows 11, helping users They have a simpler and faster experience in managing files and texts.
