Google in its new effort to strengthen artificial intelligence chatbot Gemini (Gemini) announced that with the publication “Associated Press“to make”Instant information feed» Works at Gemini.
Google’s vice president of global news partnerships explains in the company’s blog post that the partnership with the Associated Press aims to “further increase the usefulness of Gemina’s results”:
“As we develop new AI products, we identify specific types of information and data that can help improve our products and services for the people of the world. This new feed will be especially useful for users who are looking for up-to-date information.”
The post didn’t mention when Gemini’s new AI feed will roll out, nor is it clear if the feature will be rolled out to all users or if it’s only available in certain countries.
Google, which has a long-standing partnership with the Associated Press, is one of several AI companies looking to work with news organizations to improve their technologies. OpenAI has also partnered with publishers including the Financial Times, Axel Springer and News Corp, owner of the Wall Street Journal. AI-powered search engine Perplexity has also launched a program that allows publishers to earn money by displaying their content in its results.
Also, some of these collaborations are done for educational purposes. Publishers including Condé Nast have agreed to license AI companies to use their archives to train their models.
Of course, in some cases, these collaborations have not improved the artificial intelligence products of technology companies. Recently, the results of a study by Columbia University’s Digital Journalism Association claimed that ChatGPT even misquotes content from publishers that OpenAI has contracted with in some cases.
