With the recent changes made by Meta to its standards, many restrictions on the publication of hateful and even racist content on the company’s platforms will be removed.
The changes come as Meta unveiled AI Studio last year, a platform that allows Instagram, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp users to build their own AI chatbots.
AI Studio’s rules state that bots must not imitate living characters or represent religious or historical figures such as Hitler. It is also prohibited to create robots similar to copyrighted fictional characters on the said platform.
However, research suggests that despite Meta’s policies, a large number of chatbots, including the Hitler impersonator AI, have circumvented the platform’s rules; A topic that raises many concerns regarding the safety and monitoring of meta AI chatbots.
Bypassing the Meta rules doesn’t just stop at the Hitler AI chatbot, in addition to the Hitler AI chatbot, a number of other chatbots have been discovered on Facebook to have violated AI Studio’s Meta policies. Among these bots, we can mention versions similar to famous stars and famous fictional characters such as Harry Potter.
The conducted research has resulted in the reaction of Meta’s spokesperson; The spokesperson of this company announced that all chatbots that violate the rules have been removed and that the company is improving measures to detect bots that violate the rules; But such an answer cannot win public confidence in the safety of meta AI chatbots.
