OpenAI, the maker of the ChatGPT chatbot, is looking to expand its partnerships with smartphone manufacturers, and in its latest move, it has apparently reached out to Samsung to possibly find its way into the company’s Galaxy series of phones.
OpenAI has already announced that it plans to provide some of its artificial intelligence capabilities under the Apple Intelligence service for iPhone users. But according to the announcement of the Korean website The Korea Herald, this company has now entered into negotiations with Samsung and is looking to make its capabilities available to Galaxy phone users.
OpenAI is looking to partner with Samsung for AI capabilities in Galaxy phones
Users of Samsung Galaxy series phones now have access to various artificial intelligence capabilities using Galaxy AI. Although Samsung intends to improve the efficiency and performance of this service by equipping Galaxy AI with Gauss 2 generative artificial intelligence model, Galaxy AI is still not in a position to compete with products such as ChatGPT chatbot.
Hence, adding ChatGPT capabilities to Galaxy phones could be a win-win game for Samsung and OpenAI. Also, OpenAI could threaten Google’s dominance of the software market by expanding its influence among major smartphone manufacturers.
How Samsung and OpenAI will work together is not yet clear. The most likely option is to add some of ChatGPT’s popular features to the Galaxy AI system. This is exactly how OpenAI is present in Apple Intelligence.
In response to this news, Samsung has only announced that the company is promoting an open ecosystem and is ready to cooperate with all companies. In addition, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman visited Samsung’s chip manufacturing plant in South Korea earlier this year.
At its developer conference held in South Korea, Samsung announced that its Galaxy AI service will expand to more than 200 million devices this year. OpenAI now has the opportunity to strengthen its influence in the artificial intelligence ecosystem while reaching 200 million new potential users.
