The largest British mobile network operator, O2, has just unveiled an artificial intelligence chatbot, the purpose of which is to deal with Phone scammers is
According to a TechCrunch report, the chatbot, named dAIsy, was developed as an elderly woman who has enough time to talk about a variety of topics (from knitting to her cat). In fact, this artificial intelligence chatbot is designed to deal with fraudsters whose goal is to steal people’s bank information and can confuse them with long conversations.
In its statement about dAIsy, O2 says it has combined “various artificial intelligence models” to build it, which first converts the caller’s voice into text and then generates a response via a large custom language model. Finally, the text-to-speech model is used to generate a voice that can read the generated response.
How “Grandma’s Artificial Intelligence” Works and Answers
The following video of this chatbot has been released that shows its functionality. In this video, dAisy introduces herself as “a scammer’s worst nightmare”.
To test its chatbot, the British carrier giant has added numbers related to this artificial intelligence to the list from which fraudsters choose their targets. When fraudsters call dAIsy, the AI can talk to them about completely unrelated topics, such as their fictitious family members or unrealistic hobbies. The chatbot even gives them fake bank account details.
In one case, the chatbot asks the scammer to enter the phrase “WWW.” “It’s been an hour since we talked,” the scammer yells. To which the artificial intelligence softly replies: “How quickly time flies!”
To train this artificial intelligence model, the help of a YouTuber named “Jim Browning” (Jim Browning), who specializes in dealing with fraud, has been taken to a great extent.
Phone fraud is a huge problem in the US and UK, with millions of fraudsters stealing from the elderly every day. As mentioned in the video above, 7 in 10 people in the UK have experienced a phone scam.
