“Yasser Vaisi”, a marketing and event expert at Nextra, analyzed the state of exhibitions and events of information technology and artificial intelligence in Iran in an in-depth interview. By examining the quality of holding events, challenges and opportunities, he has emphasized the necessity of improving the conditions and culture of participation in exhibitions.
Attending Jitex and evaluating the quality of the event
At the beginning of this interview, Yaser Vesey talked about his absence at the Jitex exhibition and pointed out that despite not being at the event, he received information through his friends who participated in the exhibition. He added: “The only exhibition that is held directly at the international level is GITEX. “However, in my opinion, it has no effect on businesses in Iran and is more psychological.”
He continued: “For startups, this exhibition can be useful to communicate with foreign investors, but these connections lead to the departure of startups from the country. In the past years, Iran had good pavilions in exhibitions, but this year this pavilion was not organized in a favorable way.
Lack of large representatives and challenges of attracting visitors
By criticizing the absence of large Iranian representatives in Gitex, Vesey addressed the issue that large businesses such as Digikala were not present in this exhibition. “While big business has great potential, we were not represented in any industry,” he said. This shows that the platform is not available for companies.
This expert also pointed to the issue of the venue and its quality and said: “The location of the Jitex exhibition was not suitable and most startups participated to attract investors and network.”
The culture of participation in exhibitions
Yaser Vaisi believes that the culture of participating in exhibitions in Iran is not yet well established and said: “Exhibitions in Iran are mostly considered as a show to display products, and big brands are not looking to sell their products. Companies like Microsoft are looking to provide new services, and this attitude should be strengthened in Iran as well.”
Analysis of artificial intelligence event in Isfahan
Next, Vesey mentioned the artificial intelligence event in Isfahan, where he was present as a representative of Nextra Innovation Center. Stating that this event was held for the second time, he said: “This event included various parts, including an exhibition, artificial intelligence competitions, and a gathering of activists. However, artificial intelligence competitions were not held seriously and were mostly aimed at strengthening its brand.
Emphasizing the quality of the event venue, he added: “The exhibition venue was very suitable in terms of beauty and accessibility, and many companies were present there. But in general, the expected results in terms of attracting investors and making real connections were not met.”
Challenges of representatives of startups and new products
Vesey pointed out the challenges of startup representatives at the exhibition and said: “Many companies could not develop and display products from zero to one hundred. Among about 70 companies, only about 15 companies had been able to develop products that could be offered.”
He also pointed out the lack of preparation of some companies to sell their products and said: “Many exhibitors did not even know the pricing of their services, which shows that they are not properly prepared for the exhibition.”
Challenges of holding events
Appreciating the efforts of the event organizing team, Vesey said: “Organizing such events is a difficult task and requires a lot of coordination. But we have to see what the purpose of holding these exhibitions is and whether they are really designed to attract investors and job opportunities.”
Summary and foresight
In the end, Yasser Vaisi hopes that holding such events can help improve the culture of participation in exhibitions and create new opportunities for startups. He emphasized: “We must try to take advantage of the experiences of successful global events and create a suitable culture for participating in exhibitions in order to see positive changes in the country’s information technology industry in the near future.”
This conversation clearly shows the challenges and opportunities facing the IT industry in Iran and the importance of holding events for growth and prosperity.
